The City of London

London has been attracting around 15 million tourists each year making it the world’s leading tourist destination. This city is bound to quench the thirst of every interest or activity a tourist seeks. A city that has been home to some of  the biggest events, London, will now host the Olympic Games in 2012. This makes London the first city in history to be able to host the Olympic Games thrice, having hosted them previously in 1908 and 1948. In 2012, United Kingdom is expecting a massive boost to the tourism industry during and after the games. These games would serve as an add on to the already existing exciting experience a tourist would undergo when visiting London.

Getting off at Heathrow, the city is easily accessible with the various means of transport available to get around London. This well equipped city could solely guide you through entire London and its attractions with its sign boards, information and transport systems. Piccadilly Circus is bound to entertain you with its museums and theatres while Leicester Square would give you a dose of entertainment through its clubs and cinemas. Another popular place, the Trafalgar square has the National museum which would give you a glance into the art culture. At Embankment, you would witness an ambience of fun with people involved in activities like skateboarding, taking pictures, making sand art, graffiti, cycling, singing or just reading a book, along with a magnificent view of the London Skyline and humming waves of River Thames. Shopaholics find their heaven at Oxford Street which is considered to be one of London’s busiest streets.

London might not be the cheapest place to live in but it caters for visitors from all around the world with the different types of places to stay, varying from hostels to self catered flats.

Accommodation available in the lower price range include Hostels, a popular choice among students, accommodating around 5 to 7 individuals per room costing as less as 10 GBP per person. Bed and Breakfasts and cheap budget hotels are also generally available at average prices.

For families or a group of friends, a cheaper option would be to let self catering apartments or studios that are available for a short term period.

At the higher end of the price range, we have luxury hotels  present at various locations in and around the city. The closer your choice of accommodation is to the centre of London, the more expensive it gets, as central London holds majority of the tourist attractions.

The most popular reasons to visit London are, to view its magnificent collection of architectural and historical heritage and the marvellous events held every year.

Visiting museums is quite popular among tourists. Madame Tussauds is a famous wax museum bearing wax models of famous and influential personalities whereas the British Museum exhibits a vast collection of world’s art and artefacts. National History museum, Tate Modern, National Maritime museum and the science museum are some of the other places visited very frequently by tourists.  Architectural attractions include the Big Ben, Westminster parliament and various cathedrals.

Apart from these attractions, London has a large number of extravagant parks and gardens that include Regents Park and Kew gardens. In addition, to tantalize your taste buds, multi-cuisine eating places are available throughout London.
